If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

President's Message

Greeting Rotarians!  Last week we welcomed two new prospective members, Jennifer Chapin and Ian Adams.  Please find them as they make their subsequent visits so you can get acquainted.  As a follow up to our club assembly, please remember that we decided that each club member should bring in two prizes for the raffle, valued at approximately $10.  This will ensure that we always have a raffle prize to distribute.  (These will be stored in our locker at the Mt. Vernon, so please do not add anything too bulky.   If you have any questions, ask Wayne or Sabrina what might be suitable.)

We have set some important service goals for the year.  Winter Park Breakfast Rotary will participate in at least two international projects, one of which will involve RI's PolioPlus campaign.  We also decided to undertake a minimum of two local projects, and it appears we will do considerably more than that as well.  We have two ongoing commitments to Mead Gardens, we have the Winter Park Officer of the Year, and the holiday bell ringing.  We are also considering WMFE, road clean-up, and a couple other projects as well.  Our fundraising efforts are under consideration, with water sales and golf tournaments part of the plan, and any and all other suggestions welcomed.

On the subject of fund raisers, remember that we are hosting the Treasured Items sale on Labor Day.  Gerry has taken the led on this project, and is providing storage space for sale items.  Everyone should be bringing in rummage sale items to contribute to the cause.  In due course, we will also be taking volunteers to work the event, which will be held at the women's club in Winter Park.  See Gerry for details.

Yours in Rotary Service,

John
